I’m having trouble with a feature of the NamesCon Online mobile app or the desktop version or anything conference related in general. Who can help me?
You’ll find the NamesCon Online’s Information desk under the “Information” section of both the app and the desktop version. We’re available to chat or hop on a video call with you during the event’s main times. If you need assistance outside of our regular hours, e-mail us at email@example.com and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
It looks like my app or desktop version are not synchronising my meetings and messages. What should I do?
If you are working with the desktop version of our platform, simply reload the page. You can sync the app by swiping down on the screen—a little sync wheel will appear for a few seconds, and then you’ll get a pop-up confirmation that the app is synched.
I’m having trouble figuring out what each section of the platform is for.
You’ll find a little “?” button in the upper right corner of most sections—just hit that button for a quick overview of what you can do! If you have any further questions, stop by at the info desk or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, we’re happy to help!
I’m having tech problems. Can you help me troubleshoot?
Yes! You can visit the Information Desk, where you should find the help you need.
Which browsers are supported for this event?
We recommend using Google Chrome, especially when you are meeting attendees in the Networking Lounge. The vast majority of functions also run smoothly on Safari. The one browser we definitely NOT recommend using is Netscape Navigator.
I'm having trouble connecting or watching the live stream.
As this is a live stream, a fast and stable internet connection is required. Also, please ensure your system firewall or VPN is disabled.
In which time zone is NamesCon Global running?
A: We have to admit it, running a global online event and working across different time zones is tricky but we did our best to make this easy for you: the default time zone in which all the sessions and your scheduled meetings will be displayed is the time zone you entered when you signed up for NamesCon. You do have the option to switch over to our general event time zone, which is UTC. Just change between the time zones in the drop down menu which is located in both the app and the desktop version in the upper right corner of the page. All NamesCon Online returners will notice that this is different from last year where the default time zone was UTC. We changed that since this caused some problems, we hope that this adjustment works better for you!
Just in case you need it, here’s a quick time zone cheat sheet:
Pacific (Los Angeles/Vancouver) = UTC -7 hours
Eastern (NYC/Boston) = UTC -4 hours
Central Europe (Paris/Cologne) = UTC +2 hours
India Standard (New Delhi/Mumbai) = UTC + 5 1/2 hours
Australian Eastern (Sydney/ Melbourne) = UTC +10 hours
For how long after NamesCon Online is over can I access the portal?
The portal will be open and most of its functions available until October 29th, 2021. This means that you’ll be able to download business cards, chat with contacts you made and review a session for quite a while after the actual conference ends. There is one exception though: the Networking Lounge will only be available until September 25th, 2021.
Will the sessions be recorded and available to replay after the event?
Yes, most sessions will be recorded and available on demand on the platform. We aim to have the sessions online roughly 24 hours after they ended, please note that some sessions might be online later than that. The platform will stay accessible until October 29th, 2021 for everyone.
What is the Leaderboard function?
Well, what would life be without a little competition, right? Each activity on either the app or the desktop version is awarded with a certain number of points (check the Leaderboard and which activity is awarded what amount of points through the Trophy icon on the upper right corner of the desktop version). You can collect points through activities both on the app and the desktop version. The actual Leaderboard and the listing of points is only available via desktop. So let the NamesCon Online games begin!
Networking with Fellow Attendees
It’s crowded in here … how do I meet the right people?
You can go to the Attendees section of the platform, and filter by company, location, specialty, interests, and more. Make sure to update your own profile accordingly so that other attendees can connect with you more easily.
How do I get in contact with an attendee?
You already found the person you want to connect with? Great – click on the profile pictures of your fellow attendees, NamesCon Online team members, or exhibitors, and their profile page will pop up. The green circle on the upper right side indicates if they are online or not. You can either chat with them right away or request a one-on-one video chat meeting. If you want to video chat with more than one attendee at the same time, head over to the Networking Lounge and grab a table to talk.
What do I need to know about one-on-one video chats?
You can request virtual one-on-one meetings with any attendee, team member, or exhibitor. Users can choose to disable this function, but you still have the option to drop them a line in the text chat. Pending as well as approved meetings are displayed in your Meetings section. The system will remind you once your meeting time is closed. Just hit the “Join Meeting” button in the meetings section and you’ll be promptly forwarded to the video chat.
My availability for virtual meetings is limited. How do I let other attendees know?
When you go to your Meetings section, you’ll see the ability to edit your meeting slots. You can use the little “X” on each time slot to mark them as unavailable or choose to block off the entire day. You can use the same controls to make meeting slots available again if your situation changes.
What is the Networking Lounge and how do I use it?
In the Networking Lounge, you can interact with two or more fellow participants via video call. Simply open the Networking Lounge tab > allow access to Mic and Camera > Click on any chair > you’re in!
I’m a NamesCon first timer and don’t know anybody here - how do I meet people?
Well first of all welcome to the family! Check out the Social Wall and introduce yourself via its introduction function. The social wall in general is a great way to meet people, so check out your fellow attendee’s posts. And last but not least: don’t be shy and just start to talk to fellow attendees. There are plenty of options throughout the platform to find like-minded people who are all looking for a chance to network with you. In the end, that’s what we’re all here for: making connections.
How do I make sure that I can keep in contact with attendees?
You can go old-school and simply exchange contact info while you are chatting with somebody. You can “bookmark” people (click the little star symbol in the upper right corner of their profile in the desktop version or the flag symbol in the app) so that they appear in your “My Favorites” list within the general list of attendees. Most of our attendees will have their contact info in their profile, so make sure to check that out. Last but not least, the app (and only the app) has a business card function. Just hit the said button and request their business card. Once they approve the request, you can download their info to your device. Whatever contact info the attendee chose to share will be saved directly into your contacts.
How do I schedule a meeting during NamesCon Online?
Just visit the profile of the attendee you want to meet with, and hit the Meet button. Then you can schedule a meeting by selecting a date and time. You’ll notice that slots are set at 15 minutes, but you can actually keep your meeting going as long as you and your contacts need. Accepted meeting requests will show up in the Meetings tab of the event platform and smartphone app.
How can I manage my Notifications?
You can turn off and on your notifications under your profile settings. Just go to your profile and select manage notifications to toggle them on or off.
How can I manage my Privacy settings?
You can manage your privacy settings under your profile. Just go to your profile and select edit profile. On the menu that appears, you can click on privacy and select your privacy preferences like
Opt-out of chat messaging
Opt-out of Meeting Requests
Hide profile from the attendee list
Agenda and Sessions
Does the Agenda show sessions in my own time zone?
Yes, of course! The default time zone for the Agenda section is the one you entered when signing up for NamesCon online. You do have the option to switch to UTC which is our general event time zone. Just click the watch symbol in the upper right corner to change between the two time zones.
Can I add sessions to my Outlook or Google calendar?
Yes, and it’s easy! From the My Agenda page, just click the Bell icon on the session you would like to add to your personal calendar.
The session I’m joining has Q&A. How do I submit my question?
Simply join the session > click on Q&A box > add your question > submit. That’s it! Once your question has been received, the moderator will take it from there.
I’m trying to join a session but don’t see the “Join Session” link.
You will see the Join Session button when you go to the agenda. The button will get activated automatically on the scheduled session start time
If a session is streaming through a third-party app, do I need to download anything additional prior to the conference?
No, as an attendee you can watch the live stream on the event page itself through your browser or the NamesCon Online mobile app. These will be your portals into the world of NamesCon Online.
Can I watch sessions later?
Recordings of the sessions will be available through the agenda itself. We aim to upload the sessions roughly 24 hours after they ended. Please note that it might take a little longer for some sessions to be uploaded. You can simply click on the “Watch Session” button and enjoy the recorded session. They will be accessible until October 29th, 2021.
A virtual exhibition - how does that work?
Very easy, actually! Check out our partners’ virtual booths under the Exhibitors/Partners section of both the desktop and the app versions of NamesCon Online. Take your time to check out their portfolio and services. Interested to get in touch with them to discuss a business venture? Don’t be shy, that’s what they are here for! You can meet them via video chat, you can chat with them via private messages, or share your contact information and have them get back to you. You see who is available to chat at the bottom of the page – happy connecting!
What are the Workshop Rooms for?
These are Q&A sessions for the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Sessions, for diving even deeper into the topics covered. Or join our partners for workshops or hangouts – just click the Workshop tab to see which partners are offering one!
How many seats are available per Workshop Room?
Each workshop or Q&A session has a capacity of 50 seats on a first-come first-serve basis. If a workshop room is full, check back later: seats become available on the go.
How do I get to participate in the discussion?
When you log in to the Workshop Room, you will be added to the spectator pool. You can communicate with fellow attendees and the host(s) via the chat window. If you would like to join the session via video chat and take an active part in the discussion, click the “raise your hand” button in the middle under the video stream. The host(s) will get a notification and can add you to their live stream. You will be added to the conversation with your audio enabled. If you’d like to activate your video you can enable it under the main video stream. Up to 12 moderators and speakers can be added to the screen. If the panel is already full but you’d like to be added anyways, raise your hand. The host can remove active speakers and add you. It is the host’s choice whom they add to the main screen. Please note that you might not get added due to the high volume of requests.
How do I enter a Workshop Room?
Check the Workshop Room tab to see which sessions are active—look for the little red flags in the upper left corner of each workshop section. They indicate that the workshop is live. Once the host enters the room it becomes accessible for the spectators as well. (Naturally, the rooms are offline and thus not accessible at the times when the host is not present.) Just click the “Join” button on the lower right corner of each Workshop field to be added. If the workshop room reaches its capacity it will not let you join: we suggest checking back later for an open seat.
Do you recommend a specific browser for the Workshop Rooms?
Yes! The workshop rooms work best with Chrome: other browsers have limited support. You can test the compatibility of your browser by clicking the “Test Compatibility” button in the main window of the Workshop Room tab.
NamesCon Online App
How do I download the Namecon Mobile App and log in?
Click on the links below to download the app. You can then log in with the email address you used to register for the event: the platform will send a one-time login code to that address.
Both! The sessions are best enjoyed on your laptop via Chrome and with a high-speed internet connection. Exploring the platform’s functions and creating your initial meeting schedule might be easier using the desktop version. Downloading the app will take you a couple of minutes, so why don’t you just go ahead and do it? You’ll receive meeting requests, reminders for sessions, and other valuable information in real-time on your phone, so you won’t miss anything.
Is there a difference between the app and the desktop version of NamesCon Online?
For the most part, the app and the desktop version are very much the same. Think of the app as the pocket version of our conference. The navigation is slightly different because, well, the orientation of the displays are different. We’re sure you’ll get the hang of both formats rather quickly. There is one function that is available exclusively on the app though: exchanging virtual business cards. If you’re looking for that feature on the desktop app, don’t waste your time, you won’t find it. Read more about the Business Card function under the topic “How do I make sure that I can keep in contact with attendees?”.
Let’s Get Social
A Social Wall - what is that?
Our Social Wall section is our own little social media network created just for NamesCon Online. Make sure to stop by and say hello to your fellow attendees. Share a picture of how you enjoy NamesCon Online from the safe space of your home or wherever you choose to participate from. Or maybe you share your best after-hours drink with the community – whatever is on your mind, let your fellow attendees know. It’s the place to get together and have fun, so let’s use it!
Is there anything I’m not supposed to post on the Social Wall?
Well, first of all, be kind to everybody – we do not accept any form of offensive verbal comments or nonverbal expressions related to race, color, ethnicity, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, national origin, age, disability, medical condition, or any other basis protected by law. We condemn the use of derogatory or discriminatory language or actions, deliberate intimidation, unsolicited messages or imagery, and advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
In an effort to make our Social Wall a welcoming and entertaining place to mingle for everybody, we kindly ask you to refrain from posting the following contents:
Treat other users with respect and humility, just as you would if you’d meet them in person at one of our NamesCon events. Posts that present a violation against our general code of conduct will be deleted.
Within the platform, the Social Wall is visible for everybody. Do not post any sensitive data such as contact information etc. unless you are ok with it going public.
Please refrain from posting available domains individually to the Social Wall. Feel free to post an overview within one post though.
Please refrain from posting commercial content on the Social Wall, unless you are a Sponsor of the event. One post informing our users of activations and specials is acceptable, if it gets out of hand we will classify your posts as spam and subsequently delete them.
Depending on the extent to how badly our code of conduct has been violated, results may vary from warnings to exclusions from the platform. The admin will make a final decision on how to deal with each case individually.
Can I post about the conference on social media? And is there a place to see what other attendees are saying?
Yes, there are plenty of ways and we encourage it! First of all, we have a Social Wall in the event platform itself, where you can interact with fellow participants and post pictures or videos. Make sure to follow our NamesCon social feeds at Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to be up to date on what’s going on – our handle is @namescon. If you’re posting on your own social feeds about your NamesCon experience make sure to use our hashtags #NamesConOnline and #NamesCon! Last but not least: the app features a Tweet Wall which is accessible via the Social Media tab in the side navigation.

RapidFire Low-Reserve Domain Auction

How does bidding work in an online auction? We won’t have paddles…
Since you’ll already be participating in NamesCon Online, the process will feel familiar! Exact details how bidding works will be clearly posted in the auction livestream. Make sure you have a stable internet connection, since world champion auctioneer Wayne Wheat will be running the show via video, and he talks VERY fast! Can I use my credit card to bid, or do I need to use the $HNS cryptocurrency?
Credit card payments are not possible at this time. This is because the chargebacks would be massive, and these are blockchain domains—once the seller transfers the domain to the buyer, no refunds or reversals are possible. So payments for this auction will be made in $HNS.
